CO2NET is a Carbon Dioxide Knowledge Transfer Network, which was initially set up under the European Commission's FP5 Programme.
The Network comprises in excess of 54 companies or organisations, covering 18 countries. Our participants are amongst the worlds most knowledgeable in the field of Carbon Capture and Storage.
Principle Network Drivers
The key drivers for CO2NET continues to be the development of CO2 Capture and Storage (CCS) as a safe, technically feasible, socially acceptable option to help reduce the effects of human influenced climate change and to meet the CO2 emission reduction target set by the Kyoto agreement with a view to even greater emission reductions across Europe and beyond.
All aspects of the Network's programme are geared towards educating and providing information for policy makers and stakeholders, including;
- national governments
- hydrocarbon producers
- power companies
- potential storage operators
- providers of goods and services, and
- the general public
Background
The concept of CO2NET was originally defined under the European Commission's FP5 Programme and was officially launched at the end of 2002 as an European Thematic Network. Network participants included some 65 companies and/or organisations spanning 18 European countries.
Following on from its successes during the period 2002 to November 2005, participating members of CO2NET decided to restructure the network to its present form, as a self-funding Carbon Dioxide Knowledge Transfer Network.
